Neobladder may restore function in neurogenic bladder in patients with spina bifida

Score another point for regenerative medicine.

At the AUA annual meeting here, researchers reported 1-year data on augmenting the bladders of patients with spina bifida using neobladder developed from the patients' own cells. In a phase II, prospective, multicenter trial, clinical improvement after implantation with the neobladder material was noted in some patients who consequently were able to cycle their bladder.
